With a mastery of form and function, Miguel Mil\u00e1 distilled the three basic elements of any lamp: structure, electrical components and shade. From a cross-shaped base rises a first section of the stem, square in profile, which shifts to a circular form halfway up. A lightweight frame holds the bulb socket, with a shade that swivels around its axis and adjusts in height with a simple rubber ring\u2014like a sail hoisted up a mast. And, of course, its hallmark on\/off switch: a gentle tug on the cord.<\/p>\n
